The interactive map shows a wealth of information on, among other things, the status of a state's human trafficking statutes.
-------------------------------------------------------------The Center has been at the forefront of bringing the issue of human trafficking in the United States to the attention of state legislators nationwide. Since 1998, the Center has traveled throughout the country testifying before state legislatures about the importance of creating state anti-trafficking legislation from a women’s human rights perspective.
In 2000, Congress passed and the President signed into law the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000 (TVPA), making human trafficking a federal crime. TVPA provided states with an opportunity to craft legislation that would improve upon TVPA and enhance federal, state and local law enforcement coordination. Congress reauthorized TVPA in 2003 and 2005. To learn more about United States’ efforts to combat trafficking both within the United States and abroad please visit the United States Federal Laws.
