In remote villages in India, traffickers lure young people away from their homes with promises of good jobs and better lives in the city. Once the teens are separated from family and friends, it's all too easy for them to fall prey to modern-day slave traders.
To thwart traffickers, community vigilance groups keep track of neighbors leaving for jobs and give them a number to call if they get into trouble. CRS partners also teach villagers, especially young people, marketable skills so they don't need to seek employment far from home. And for dropouts, among the most vulnerable to trafficking, bridge schools allow them to return to classes.
