Police have arrested two models, Ramita Bhandari and Sabbu Shah, from Kathmandu on Saturday on charges of trafficking girls to Singapore with false promises and employing them forcefully in dance bars.
Bhandari and Shah were arrested based on a complaint filed by a victim, Anita Nakarmi. Nakarmi had filed a complaint at Metropolitan Police Sector, Janasewa, claiming the model duo had promised her a job at a beauty parlour in Singapore and taken Rs 0.8 million from her, but forcefully employed her in a dance bar after reaching Singapore. Nakarmi returned to Kathmandu after spending six months in Singapore.
In her complaints, Nakarmi has mentioned the model duo had lured many other girls to Singapore and forcefully employed them in dance bars.
The models, who were scheduled to leave for Singapore today, were arrested by a police team from Metropolitan Police Circle, Balaju.
In their statements to the police, they have said, they worked as dancers in dance bars in Singapore but denied that they had lured any girls for work in Singapore.
