VOL 18 NO -28 REGD NO DA 1589 | Dhaka, Tuesday December 21 2010 Human trafficking done in name of sending workers abroad: Sahara
FE Report
Home Minister Sahara Khatun Monday said a powerful circle is involved in human trafficking in the name of sending workers abroad.
She said, "Human trafficking is a big problem and a social crime across the world. It is entering into every country destroying the borderline and creating a negative impact on the people of that country."
She said this while speaking as chief guest at the 'National Consultation on Draft Comprehensive Law on Human Trafficking' organised by Ministry of Home Affairs and International Organisation for Migration (IOM) at Dhaka Sheraton Hotel.
She said, "The ministry of home affairs will take steps for effective and successful implementation of the draft 'Human Trafficking Deterrence Act 2011' which can be crucial in preventing human trafficking."
Describing the draft of the new legislation as effective and timely, she said the proposed law would not only prevent trafficking but also ensure safe migration of workers.
She urged all concerned to make and develop the 'Human Trafficking Law 2011' with international standard like CRC, CEDAW, UN Convention for the Suppression of the Trafficking in Persons and of the Exploitation of Prostitution of Others.
State Minister of Women and Children's Affairs Shirin Sharmin Choudhury said that while the focus is on human trafficking encompassing all, care must be taken to see that the special needs of women and children are addressed adequately.
