Kupang:As many as 13 young children and teenagers from Oenlasi village in South Amarasi, South Central Timor sub-district failed to leave for Sidoarjo after officials could not find proper documents on them. Officials suspect they were victims of human trafficking.
The 13 youths aged 8 to 23 years old were to be flown to Porong, Sidoarjo, using Batavia Air, to be placed at the Dorkas Orphanage over there.
Godlife Nomleni with his wife, Margi Katopo, who accompanied them, said that they will be schooled and supported by the orphanage. Their parents have allowed them to be schooled in Sidoarjo, he said.
Ipda Marthin Loang, Airport Security chief, said they thought the 13 children were victims of human trafficking because they had no documents.
There were no documents on bringing the 13 children to Porong, Sidoarjo, said Ipda Martin, contacted by Tempo in Kupang yesterday. He said there were no documents from the parents nor from the South Central Timor administration, so they held up their departure. He said that Godlife only showed a blank form from the Dorkas orphanage.
The move against these children was taken to prevent what happened to 11 children, also from South Central Timor in East Jakarta.
When the Dorkas Orphanage in Porong was asked to confirm the arrival of the 13 children, they denied charges of human trafficking. Thats nonsense. On the contrary, we want to help them, said orphanage manager, Lani Pontoh, in her office yesterday.
According to Lani, the 13 kids had obtained permission from their parents, their local villages and their schools. The letter allowing them to continue their studies in Sidoarjo were complete and valid. But we did make a mistake, some other letters are still needed, said Lani.
