BATON ROUGE --
Gov. Bobby Jindal called on the
Legislature on Wednesday to broaden
Louisiana's laws against
human trafficking by making it a crime to "advertise" a child for commercial sexual exploitation.
Times-Picayune archiveGov. Bobby Jindal State law already outlaws the recruitment, transportation or kidnapping of a minor sexual exploitation. The expanded law would also punish people who knowingly facilitate such crimes by listing children for sexual services on the Internet.
"The virtual world evolves quickly and criminals use it to exploit our children any way they can," Jindal said.
The bill will be introduced by Rep. Walt Leger III, D-New Orleans, for debate during the two-month legislative session that starts April 25.
Jindal made the announcement at the Louisiana Sheriffs Association, where he also unveiled an anti-crime initiative in Baton Rouge.
