SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government has formed a new body called Selangor Anti-Human Trafficking (Mampas), in line with its effort to curb the menace in the state.

Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim said Mampas was timely in view of the rising human trafficking issue nationwide.

“The number of victims snared into human trafficking is rising and criminals are using various tactics to rope them in,” he told reporters after closing the Mampas symposium ceremony yesterday.

Khalid also claimed that about RM600mil was spent monthly to lure the victims.

He added that advertisements promising employees good prospects overseas were among the strategies used to bait the victims.

Mampas, under the purview of the state’s welfare, women’s affairs, science, technology and innovation committee chairman Rodziah Ismail, was established after a number of hotspot areas in Selangor were identified for such activities.

Asked if Mampas would seek help from the Federal Government, Khalid said:

“We are willing to work with any department although this is a state government’s effort.”
