RANCHI: The social welfare department here is drafting a policy that will make registration of women migrating to other states in search of employment necessary.
Minister Bimla Pradhan said here on Monday that the decision was taken to keep an eye on the movement of women who are being lured by middlemen with promises of high-paying jobs and comfortable lives in metros.
"In the past one year we rescued 64 girls with the help of the Bharatiya Kisan Sangh, an NGO working against trafficking, from Delhi, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka. But the movement of women has not stopped. To keep a close watch we have decided to make registration compulsory," said Pradhan while presenting 10 minor girls who were rescued from Delhi and brought here in the afternoon.
"I was shocked to learn that most of the girls did not get a single penny though they worked for more than two years. What's worse, these girls were beaten up by the employer," said Pradhan, adding that since the girls were not able to give details of the middlemen, the department was unable to take action against those involved.
The minister said once registration became compulsory, the department would be in a position to keep track. "To stop migration and trafficking of minors, the department will run campaigns with the help of NGOs in remote areas," she added.Source
