Victims of human trafficking in the US and other countries are entitled to protection and assistance. In the US there is no regard to immigration status.
Labor Trafficking is using force, fraud or coercion to recruit, harbor,transport, provide or obtain a person for labor or service in involuntary servitude, peonage, debt bondage, or slavery. Sex Trafficking is the commercial sex act induced by force, fraud, coercion or in which the person induced is under the age of 18.
Smuggling is not the same as trafficking. Smuggling is the movement of consenting people across international borders. The migrants relationship with the smuggler ends upon arrival at the migrants destination. Human trafficking is on going exploitation. Travel is not always involved. Some years ago a group of under age girls were being housed in storage units and used as sex slaves for their food and shelter. The girls were run aways.
Something every girl in her teen years should consider before hitting the streets. If life at home is unbearable report your situation to a school authority or Social and Health. In general, victims have either never consented to their condition, or their consent is rendered meaningless by the victims young age or by coercive, deceptive or abusive actions on the parts of the traffickers.
