Do successful prosecutions constitute success in the fight against modern-day slavery? | Human Trafficking Search

But over the years we came to ask ourselves a very important question: Is it truly “success” to have brought those already-existing operations to justice?  We helped pioneered the worker-based, victim-centered, multi-sector approaches to investigations, collaborating with law enforcement.  We know the work is urgent and essential.  Actual success, however, is getting to the point where the “Slavery in Fields” is history, not 21st century headline news.

ROME — Building on one of Pope Francis’ top social and political priorities, the Vatican has presented plans for a first-ever “International Day of Prayer and Reflection against Human Trafficking” to be held Feb. 8.

2014 In Human Trafficking | International Political Forum

The pressure of unprecedented globalisation has meant that human trafficking and modern day slavery are inescapable realities of our political system. From Pope Francis declaring human trafficking as a “crime against humanity” to forced labourin Thailand’s seafood industry, the issue of human trafficking has been contemplated in 2014 in a way that it has not been before. Roskam: Fighting human trafficking in the foster care system | mySuburbanLife.com

Source:  mySuburbanLife.com:

For too many children in the foster care system, their lives have been filled with instability, abuse, and neglect. Often these children are passed from home to home not knowing how long they will stay in one place or who they can trust. The psychological toll of such an environment makes it all too easy for human trafficking rings to target vulnerable foster care youth and force them into what can only be described as modern day slavery. That is why lawmakers, community leaders and law enforcement agencies are joining forces to prevent the estimated 104,000 children in foster care from becoming victims of physical and psychological abuse.
